DESCRIPTION When Amy’s ventriloquist dummy keeps losing his head, her dad buys her a new one from a pawn shop – Slappy. That’s when things start going wrong for Amy and no one believes her.
I question whether or not Slappy is actually evil. Night of the Living Dummy actually really freaked me out as a kid. But he doesn’t actually hurt anyone in this book. He just plays pranks that go too far. I guess what would make this scary (aside from… you know… a ventriloquist dummy coming to life…) is that no one believes Amy and they just think she’s crazy.
That being said, even as an adult, I like this book. It’s still kinda creepy. But more importantly, it’s written well and is entertaining. Yes, it’s cheesy. Yes, a large part of why I like it may have to do with growing up with Goosebumps but… still…
