After the Banquet (2009) live action, movie – South Korea

196. After the Banquet
drama, friendship
starring: Shin Seong Woo, Ye Ji Won, Bae Su Bin, Go Ah Sung, Kim Bo Kyeong, Yoon Hee Seok, Seo Yu Jeong, Lee Hae Young

a group of college friends all get together for the first time in about 15 years at a wedding. Afterwards, they begin discussing the one woman in the group that didn’t come when a young girl shows up saying the woman was her mother and had passed away the month before and that she came looking for her father, who was one of the men among the group.

It’s cute enough and sweet enough, but I was kind of bored and annoyed by it. The story may have been cute, but it was really boring and I had a hard time concentrating on it. Then it was annoying because it’s about a 15 year old girl thats living with her grandparents after her mother died and she gets on a bus to go to a wedding. The wrong bus at that. Then later on in the movie, the 15 year old girl is upset, as is a 6 year old boy. So what does she do? Runs off with the boy. Are her grandparents senile? Is that why they didn’t have a problem with such a young girl going on a trip when she doesn’t know where she’s going? Why does she think it’s ok to run off with a boy that isn’t even half her age? Why did she seem to know right off who her father was when she only knew what he called her mother and that he wrote a song with her mother?

I guess it’s a cute and relaxing and heartwarming movie if you like this sort of thing though….
